A procedure that achieves high cure rates, stem cell transplantation is an established form of treatment for many patients with haemato-oncological diseases.
The outpatient preparation phase, the stay in hospital and the rehabilitation phase post-discharge usually involve a great deal of physical and emotional stress for both patients and their relatives.
Beyond the medical care provided by our team of doctors, the provision of nursing and mental health care is a major component of the treatment journey.
The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Department of Medicine I currently has seven doctors and a 50-strong team of nursing staff.
If required, patients have access to psychologists, physiotherapists, social workers, doctors from the Department of Psychiatry and colleagues who work in pastoral care, with all professional groups working closely together as part of a single multi-professional team.
